The Commodore's Comments - December 2013
Well this is my last Commodore comments for the year. It
has been an honor and pleasure being your Commodore for
2013! It has been a lot of fun and I highly recommend the
experience. We had great weather a couple of weeks ago and
de-rigged and stored our training equipment. Thanks Bob
A, Tina and Bill O! Up next was the ever popular annual
Holiday Party December 14th. Our 2014 Commodore in-waiting,
Mark Powell, provided quite a "funked up" party
agenda! Here are a few words
from our Commodore in-waiting:
"Now that I've had a couple of days for the head
to clear and the brain cells to regenerate, I want to thank
all those SPSC folks who helped out to make our event a
success! Special thanks goes to DJ Bobbi G and Sandy for
the music and lights that allowed this (and other) dancing
fools to get funky at the Electric Eye, Ann Getman (decorating),
Bill Olson (Growler Bar Manager and Boom tree inventor),
Wright Finney (spirits bar management), Martini Perry, Commodore
Mike and Laurie, Tina, Linda, and everyone else who helped
decorate, and Lee Chapin (who arranged for the hall rental
and the use of the supreme Potentate parking spot for the
night). Very special thanks went to everybody who stayed
up well past 1 am to clean up the hall and put stuff away!
Can't wait for Festivus! "
Well that’s it for me. A special thanks to Wright
and everybody else who provided guidance and helped make
representing the club the great experience it was! It takes
a lot of dedicated people stepping up to keep our club what
it is. I’m looking forward to my retirement and entrance
into the exclusive past Commodore club. I hope to see as
many as possible at the 2013 Holiday Party and please try
to attend the 2013 Festivus
for the traditional changing of the guard.

Club Meeting – November
Called to order at 7:44 with 14 present. Before much
got done, the numbers present surged to 19. Let it be
known to all that the Purser was early!!! Kind of.
Readings from the book of Levinicus commenced:
Levinicus73:2 Two windsurfers are getting ready to head
out: Windsurfer one says: "Hey, guess what! I got
a new longboard for my wife!" Windsurfer two replies:
Levinicus 6:66 Perry and Rico were at the bar when Perry
asks: "Hey man, what's worst: ignorance or indifference?".
Rico answers (this is the pg version): "I really
don't know and I really don't care".
All approved the minutes. Many thanks went out to our
guest author, Tiki Mon!!!!!
Purser reported $Money$ in the checking account, though
we have some upcoming expenses, such as the Christmas
party and the scribes salary, for which negotiations are
ongoing. The scribe union is pretty weak. Hopefully Bill
can whip the union into shape.
We have 44 current memberships. Remember, memberships
renew in September unless you signed up after taking lessons
in the summer. In the words of one of our many esteemed
spokesmen, I upped my dues, so up yours.
Bob A. is going to look for a warm day to get folks together
to break down the training equipment.
Christmas party will be a funk theme. Pot luck with meats
and adult beverages provided by the club. Initial budget
request was for $8802 but was changed to $600 and then
to $950 to include the cost of the facility. Bring your
gently worn warm clothing (jackets and such) that you
no longer need for Echo to distribute to those less fortunate.
Lee talked about the cleanup afterwards and asked more
people to stay and help. More hands makes the work go
faster. Please help.
Festivus is at 3pm on the Sunday before Christmas. Be
there for the airing of grievances, feats of strength,
and good will.
Dave did the Fiesta Key discussion this year due to Perry’s
total frustration with the place. Dave was frustrated
as well, but secured a plot of camp areas for us. Two
tents or a trailer and tent can share a space.
