Club Meeting minutes August
called to order at 7:33. 18 people present and
once again the Commodore started with a joke
which went: An old sea captain was sitting on
a bench near the wharf when a young man walked
up and sat down. The young man had spiked hair
and each spike was a different color…green,
red, orange, blue and yellow. After a while
the young man noticed that the captain was staring
What’s the matter old timer, never done
anything wild in your life?
The old captain replied. “got drunk once
and married a parrot. I was just wondering if
you were my son!”
Everyone laughed heartily and stayed for the
rest of the meeting.
Linda mentioned trying to get all regional events
back up on our calendar, such as Calema Mid
Winters, Island Style Classic Windsurfing in
Sarasota, Atlanta Fall Classic on Lake Lanier
by Flowery Branch, etc. With Linda Downey and
Bill Olson’s assistance, we will pull
Everyone already knew, but the scribe decided
to say that there were no new articles from
anyone but encouraged anyone that had the desire
to write to please do so and send it to the
R&R wrap up. Mentioned Doug Smith’s
Training equipment folks want smaller sails
and lighter masts and booms. They won’t
get them, but they want them.
Last training class is August 24th, a practice
race day is September 7th, and the Thomasville
Boy scouts are coming for a lesson on September
Purser says we have money in the bank but owe
money for insurance and for Rum n’ Rootbeer
expenses. Our membership total is 69, highest
in a long time. Dues are due in September.
The slate for elections so far is as follows:
Commodore: Mark Powell, Vice Commodore: Unknown,
Scribe: Bob Graves, Purser: Wright Finney. The
board nominees so far are Ann Getman, Lee Chapin,
Mark Voigt, Bill Olson, Jack May, Tina Mazanek,
and Linda Downey.
Mike asked for a $4,500 budget for the Endless
Summer. All were in favor with one abstaining
from the vote. Discussion ensued on the sail
numbers on the design for this year.
We will once again have Donaldo’s and
a gumbo contest. Supper will be provided by
“Welcome to Moe’s!”
The Vice wanted to be recognized and finally
was. He mentioned America’s cup sailing
going on with the new catamarans with foils.
Bill mentioned a Level 1 Windsurfing instructor
class up in Cape Hatteras on August 28th given
by US Sailing and hosted by Ocean Air Sports.
Mark Powell asked about housing at Lake Lanier
and folks there said they would send info as
it came up.
