Anyone sailing Debby?

Jun 24, 2012 by alexb

Anyone out sailing today? Looks like it may clear up at the beach in about 2-3 hours for a session... I'd hate to be the only one sitting at home and missing out. I wont have a chance to get out on Monday. :(

Alligator Point is hitting 60's and avg 50mph. I don't have the board/sail/skill to handle that but I really feel like I'm missing out on some good wind. :)

Thanks Linda! I'd like to check it out, I'll call you tomorrow evening. Does it have a variable head? My smallest mast is a 430.

There's a guy selling some WS stuff on the Jax craigslist in Middleburg. I picked up a sweet 40cm powerbox weed fin from him some weekends back. He had 3.75 and 4.5 sails I was looking at but thought, eh I'll never use them... and then Debby came. :)

Alex, I have a 4.2ish (unmarked/?protoype?) Neil Pryde sail that might work for you. Looks shaped for wave sailing but not something i really know anything about... Barely used. Bought it sight unseen for lessons use but turned out too nice to subject to student (ab)use. Call if you are interested. Linda 591-3306.

Charlie, it was hard not to go out there. :) I REALLY wanted to every time it looked like the wind died a little but then a gust would come in and I had to hold on to my cellphone with both hands so it wouldn't fly out.

Checkout the video. It's a .mp4 file so you'll need to download it to view it. I would convert it to ogv and flash and embed it if my cablemodem was working but I'm uploading with the cellphone. Should be fixed Tuesday. :/

I sure am glad the lessons went well yesterday! It would not have been so good today! Alex - glad common sense prevailed for you. Thanks for the pics. Hope the trailer is still there later this week!

I made it out to ShellPoint, I figured everyone would be out there. The rain stopped for a an hour and a half just as I got there. It was perfect but the wind was way too strong for my five-oh and I have nothing smaller. Perry was out there considering getting some Debby just for the bragging rights but didn't try it. It was blowing crazy hard. Probably gusting into the 40-50's. Waves were huge (for SP), water was up to the club house. Windy was avg'ing around 18-23 but it was being blocked by the house on the left of it. I have a nice video of the wave action and a few pics but my cablemodem's upstream's dead right now. I can barely post this.

Oh, Perry got on the news! There was a reporter from the local news station; I believe WTXL 27?

Trying to get a TINY 55KB pic up and I can't send anything up. But just in case it makes through I'm putting in the tag for it.
