Windsurfing out, kites and outdated dinghies in

May 6, 2012 by Markd

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/general/sailing/windsurfers-promise-to-fight-2016-kiteboarding-replacement-decision-7718502.html It was a long run... 1984-2012 and I was honored to compete in the first US Trials. I'm sad for the kids who were in line to get their shot at windsurfing in the olympics. Kites probably deserve to get a chance to show what they can do in the olympics. However, there's no more need for the Finn dinghy and 470 classes since they already have the laser mens and women's and a mixed two person skiff class. Both of those dinghies have been around for a long time and are pretty out of date now. The 2016 Olympics will be in Rio. If its light air you probably can't pump a kite board around a course.
